Easy Craft Project - Make a Tree Picture with Coffee Filters

 
Are you looking for an easy craft project to do with your kids?  Here is a project my daughter and I did.  We made a picture of a tree using coffee filters.  This craft project is easy, simple, cheap, and fun.


Supplies You Will Need:

• 3 Coffee Filters 
• 2 Sheets of Construction Paper (1 Brown)
• Glue
• Scissors 
• Crayons

Directions:

Step #1:  We made a small picture on standard size construction paper.  You can make a lager one as well.  For the smaller size, we cut the bottoms of the coffee filters out.  So we were left with the round bottom.

Step #2:  Color the coffee filters.  You can use green or a collection of green, red, brown, and orange for fall colors.

Step #3:  Cut out a tree trunk on brown construction paper.  If your child is good with scissors, just trace the outline for them and let them do the cutting.

Step #4:  Glue the tree truck to the full sheet of construction paper (the background).

Step #5:  Glue each of the colored coffee filters to the page (on top of the tree truck).





Above was a picture of our final product.  Below is a picture of a larger tree we also made the same way.  We just used full coffee filters and a large sheet of construction paper.

Doing craft projects with your child is a fun activity that is great for whenever, especially a rainy day.  What is nice about this preschool craft project or kindergarten craft project is that most parents already have all the needed supplies at home!

Easy Craft Project: Foam Door Handles

I love foam craft kits; they are so cool!  They are also pretty cheap.  I bought these foam door hangers in a kit from the Dollar Tree.  The only cost was the door hangers; we decorated them with items we already had in the house!

Things You Will Need:

Foam Door Hangers
Glue
Markers
Stickers
Other Embellishments (Foam Shapes and So Forth)

Directions:

Step #1:  Gluing a bunch of embellishments on foam door hangers can get kind of messy when small children are involved, so first start out with putting newspapers down on the table.

Step #2:  Give each person (child and yourself) a door hanger.

Step #3:  If anyone wants to write their name, now is the best time to do it before the door hanger has a bunch of stickers and shapes glued on.

Step #4:  Start gluing shape cutouts and pom poms or add your stickers now.

Step #5:  It is best to let the glue dry before you try and hang this on the door or else all your glued embellishments may slide (haha speaking from experience)!

Decorating Sun Visors & Other Foam Hats

Browsing around my local Wal-Mart, I visited the craft section.  There I found a lot of cute foam hats for children to wear and decorate.  We purchased a few sun visors and princess hats.

These items make for a great, fun, and easy craft project for kids.

Supplies You Will Need:

Foam Hat(s)

Other Embellishments (Pom Poms & So Forth)

Directions:

This craft project for kids is very simple!  Set a bunch of items in front of them, such as markers, stickers, and so forth and then let them go to town.  Watch as your child has fun decorating their own hat!

Preparing Your Child for Preschool: Fun Preschool Craft Project / Activity

An important part of preparing your child for preschool or kindergarten involves encouraging creativity. One way that you can do so is with the use of beads. Making a bracelet or necklace with your child is a fun preschool activity. It is also one that is easy and relatively affordable.

Personally, we purchased a large pack of colored beads from Wal-Mart, for around $5. The string that we used came from the Dollar Tree. The only other supply you need is a pair of scissors.

Have your child string the beads, after you tie a knot at one end. They can just start adding beads onto their string, but they can also create a pattern with your help.

Preparing Your Child for Preschool: Fun Preschool Craft Project

If you are looking for a fun preschool craft project to do with your child, you may want to make your own paper bag puppets. The good news about doing so is that you have so many options.

As you can see (lol hopefully if you can tell) we made a few puppets that are the Backyardigans, from the popular Nick Jr. show. Just to make sure we got the puppets right, I went to the NickJr.com website to see what they all looked like. This is a good idea if your child wants to make a puppet of their favorite movie or television characters. It is amazing how some children can notice the smallest differences!

Supplies That Are Needed:
Lunch Sized Paper Bag
Scissors
Paint and Paint Brushes
Construction Paper
Glue

Directions:

1 – Have your child start painting their paper bag.

2 – While the paint is drying, trace your child’s handprints on a piece of colored construction paper. These handprints can be used for their puppet’s arms.

3 – Cut out the handprints.

4 – Have your child glue them to the side of the paper bag.

5 – Add any additional accessories, like ears, hats, or antlers.

Hanging Paper Snake

This fun preschool craft project is one that your child will love to hang in their room.

Supplies Needed:

Paper
Markers or Crayons
Scissors
Hole Puncher
Yarn

Directions:

1 – Start by drawing the outline of the snake on the paper. You can get started with an open circle in the middle and keep on drawing until you run out of room.

2 – Have your child start coloring the paper. This step can also be done afterwards, but it is easier when the snake isn’t already cut out.

3 – Cut out the snake for your child. Cut along the line that you did earlier.

4 – Have your child decorate the snake. Once it is cut out, they may be able to envision the snake’s face or spots better.

5 – Use a hole punch to put a hole towards the top of the snake’s head.

6 – Attach a piece of yarn or string and hang.

Preparing Your Child for Preschool: Fun Preschool Craft Project with Glitter

What You Will Need:

Paper
Glue (White Bottled Glue Works the Best)
Paint Brush (Optional)
Glitter

Directions:

Start by putting down newspapers on your working surface. An extra sheet of paper is also advised.

Spread glue on a sheet of paper. A paint brush can also be used to help spell out words, create shapes, or just put glue on more of the paper.

Sprinkle glitter over the glue.

Shake the excess glitter from the paper. This is where it is nice to have an extra sheet of paper underneath. This extra sheet of paper can be used as a funnel to keep on sprinkling the glitter on the glued sheet of paper until there isn’t anymore left.

If you like the idea of making collages with your child, you may want to collect magazines and store sale flier pictures whenever you see them. The first day that my daughter started making collages I thought that we were going to run out of pictures, as she didn’t want to stop making them.

Another great trip involves asking any close friends or family members to save any magazines that they may get, especially if they just end up throwing them away.

You can cut out pictures from magazines or store sale fliers (we saved a bunch from Christmas). Then, give these pictures to your child with a glue stick and let them glue the pictures however they want to onto a piece of construction paper or poster board.

If you are interested in allowing your child to do preschool craft projects at home, you will want to invest in a couple boxes of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. They are great at getting paint, markers, and just about anything else off of your kitchen table or even your wall (lol, speaking from experience).

In addition to Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, I know that some stores, such as Wal-Mart, have their own brands of this nice produce. I hear that many work just as well as the original.

Directions:

You will want to place your child’s lunch sized paper bag on a flat surface, particularly one covered with paper towels and newspapers. You will want to make sure that the folded portion of the bag, the bottom, is facing up. Have your child decorate that part as the face of their puppet. They can later paint on clothing, should they wish to do so.

In our home, we have found that our daughter likes this preschool craft project best when it is done with paint. If you do not have any paints or if you are looking for a relatively mess-free preschool craft project, your child can also use markers or crayons to make a paper bag puppet.

When doing preschool crafts, there is a good chance that your child will paint. Water colors are nice, but they can only go so far. For that reason, you may need to purchase more expensive styles of kids paint or poster paint.

Preschool Craft Projects: Foam Hats

If you would like to try making your own hats out of Styrofoam bowls, these are the some supplies that you will need.

1 Package of Styrofoam Bowls
1 Package of Paints (Kids Paint or Poster Paint Works the Best)
1 Package of Stickers (Foam Stickers are Great for This Craft Project)
1 Package of Feathers
1 Package of Pipe Cleaners

Of course, many of these supplies are optional, but my daughter thinks that they make for some great preschool craft hats.

What you will want to do is start by painting your styrofoam bowls. This is something that we did at night, so that the paint could dry overnight.

Once the paint has dried, your child can have a lot of fun with this preschool craft project. We added foam stickers and feathers to our hats and much more. What is nice about this craft project is that your finished hats can be used to play “dress up!”
